God loves families. He is the Author of the family. Genesis 2:18 says, the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him”.
By this we understand that the Lord gave Eve to Adam as his partner and His ultimate purpose was to raise godly offspring through them (Gen1:28). There are many instances in the Bible to show that the Lord is concerned about the entire family.
For example, in the case of Noah, we see that even though it was only Noah who walked closely with God, the Lord protected and preserved his whole family-his wife, all his three sons and even their wives from the torrential rain.
In the New Testament also, we read that when Jesus was on this earth, He visited a family in Bethany quite often. He used to dine with them and enjoy having fellowship with them. It was indeed the family of Martha, Mary and their brother Lazarus!
His love for Lazarus and his two sisters was so much that when he heard that Lazarus died, he even performed a miracle and raised him from the dead.
Another incident of how Jesus loves families is mentioned in Luke 7.
When he saw that the only son of the poor widow was dead. His heart was moved by her cry. So He raised him from the dead, thus restoring joy in their family.
Above all, we read, His heart-rending request made to His beloved disciple John regarding his mother Mary while He was undergoing great agony on the cross. His love towards her as His mother was so overflowing that He did not want her to suffer loneliness even for a short period.
Dear friends, love should be the binding force in every family unless we love our family members as our Heavenly Father loves us, we would not be able to bring about peace and harmony in our homes. For this, our ego should be dethroned.
We should always give priority to the interests of others rather than our own and always have Christ as the Head of our home. If that is so, then our home is sure to be a paradise on earth!
“Husbands, love your wives…wives submit to your husbands…” (Colossians 3:18, 19)
