The trainer
requires absolute obedience from these horses in order to make them the best of
the lot. Hence he puts them to rigorous tests
in the deserts of Arabia. When he has given
them enough training the trainer would put them to a final test. This final
test is almost beyond the endurance of any living thing.
The horses are
forced to go without water for days together. Then the trainer turns them
loose, and naturally these horses would invariably gallop toward the stream,
craving to satiate their thirst. But, just as they get to the edge, ready to
plunge in and drink, the trainer blows his whistle.
The horses who
have been completely trained and who have learned perfect obedience stop. They
turn around and come pacing back to the trainer. They stand there quivering,
wanting water, but they
wait in perfect obedience.
Then the trainer
knows for sure that he has their obedience. He pats them and gives them a
signal to go back to drink. Now this may look severe but unless the horse
is obedient and trustworthy, it would not be rated the best.
Our God is not harsh,
but He trains us with love and gentleness. When we go
astray in this process of learning to obey Him, He gently rebukes us and makes
us understand that He considers us as precious and puts His confidence in us
more than anybody else. For He wants us to be the best of the lot!
Dear friends, we
must be willing to undergo the training, however hard it may be, and prove
ourselves to be trustworthy. Then the Lord would entrust us the greatest and
most privileged responsibility of serving Him.
Encouraging truth!!! There is no substitute to obedience.
