We have been seeing that one of
the consequences of living in a fallen world is that we face attacks from the
wicked spiritual forces of the fallen angels headed by Satan himself who is a
vicious fighter.
God,
however, has provided us with six
separate pieces of armor to defend against Satan and his wiles as we read it in
Ephesians 6:10-20.
So, put on all the armor that God
gives you, so that you will be able to stand up against the devil’s evil
tricks.
Firstly, wear the BELT OF TRUTH around your waist tightly
which is acquired by meditation on His words.
Secondly, put on the BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS – which is
the conviction that you are saved not by our own righteousness but by His.
Thirdly, have your feet fitted with the SHOES OF READINESS – a determination to
stand firm on the teaching of gospel.
Fourthly, raise the SHIELD OF FAITH with which you will be
able to put out the burning arrows of the evil one - will also help you resist
the devil’s lies and replace them with God’s truth.
Fifthly, put on the HELMET OF SALVATION – which is acquired
by living in the assurance that we are saved not only from the penalty of sin
but also from its power and, one day in the future, from its very presence.
All the above things are for our defence, but
warfare is not only defensive but offensive.
And lastly, to go on the offensive you need
to put on the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT- which is
the Word of God.
It is important here that it is not enough to
put on this spiritual armor, but you are instructed to ‘pray in the
Spirit’ as the Spirit leads. Praying in the Spirit means
praying in the power of the Spirit – not relying on our ability to pray or put
words together but acknowledging our complete dependence on the Spirit to guide
and empower our praying.
Dressed like this, you will not afraid of the devil and instead He will
be afraid of you.
Let’s not attempt to deal with the devil
unless we are fully dressed.
Are you dressed
fully?
Thank God for this piece, its a good reminder for us at all times to keep us from falling. Its quite motivating. Thanks Johnson.
