IS GOD STILL SPEAKING?
“For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9)
“For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9)
Once in a village there was a massive flood. People were running about to survive the raging waters. They took every possible route to escape.
In that village, there lived a godly man, who had immense faith in God. He began to pray, ‘God, please help me’. Just then some people passed that way swimming in the water. They had a rope with them and they offered to extend the rope to him. But he told them, ‘No, I won’t come, you carry on. God will rescue me; I have full faith in Him.’
The level of water was rising. His prayers were still on. Then a boat came towards his house in which there were a few people trying to save themselves. They called out to him and asked them to join them in the boat, but he was not ready to go. He kept saying, ‘My God will definitely come to my rescue.’
Now the water rose up dangerously; he climbed up onto the terrace of his house. A few moments later, some army personnel came in a helicopter. They dropped a ladder towards him. But he was adamant and refused. Finally, he drowned in the water and died.
After his death, he complained to God, ‘O God! Why did you let me down and destroy my faith? Why didn’t you come to my rescue?’ God replied, ‘I came to rescue you three times: first with a rope, then with a boat and lastly with a ladder. But you didn’t recognize me. You were not ready to come. You wish to see my help as per your imagination. You didn’t recognize me even when I was right in front of you.’ The godly man then realized his folly.
When we face problems, we always pray that God solve our problem at once and expect Him to come and help us in a particular form. Due to this imagination, even if God provides us guidance through His various means, we fail to recognize it. And we then start to blame God because we do not see the proof of the fulfillment of our prayers in the manner we imagined.
God is speaking to us in ways we often overlook. He has many ways of speaking and He doesn't always speak in the way that we expect Him to; that is one of the reasons why we don't realize that we already hear God more than we think.
If you want to hear God, the first thing you need to do is learn how to tune in to His voice. The better you get to know God and His ways the easier it is to tune in and recognize when God is speaking.
Learning to recognize when God is speaking takes time and effort. The more often you meet with God and talk with Him, the easier it will be to recognize His voice. When you become familiar with God's presence and His voice it will be much easier to hear God speaking.
Sometimes you don't hear God because you're not really expecting Him to speak or because you're expecting Him to speak in a certain way. When He speaks in a way you don't expect, it's easy to miss what He's saying.
God is full of surprises. Never forget that He isn't human, it's a mistake to limit Him to what you know or expect.
You need to be open to God speaking to you in any way He chooses and not just in ways that are familiar.
People 'hear' from God in different ways. God's 'voice' isn't limited to words. He speaks through all of His creation. You hear God through all of your senses. The 'sound' of His voice comes in many different ways. There is no set way of hearing God.
Many people 'hear' God speaking through circumstances or their surroundings. In the Bible, God spoke to people in ways that they could see and experience in their daily lives. God communicated with people through what was obvious and all around them. He wants to do the same with you today.
"It was in the garden of Eden that the creator first communed with His creation. Since that time, generations of men have forgotten that God is a talking God, and as a result many live in a vacuum of spiritual silence.
I hope you're encouraged to believe that God is speaking to you. You can hear God's voice every day, it's much easier than you think.
