THE HOMING INSTINCT !!!

Homing is the inherent ability of an animal or bird to navigate towards an original location through unfamiliar areas. This location may be either a home territory, or a breeding spot.

The salmon fish fights the gushing rivers to return to the very place where he was born. Birds do it, bees do it — and so do rats and cats. Nature is full of the homing instincts, and no surprise – THERE IS ONE IN MAN TOO.

Something within the spiritual nature of every human tells him that he is not really at home in this world. He may not understand the impulse that stirs within him, but he suspects the physical birth and death cycle with its three meals a day- on the job- and back to bed routine is not all that is planned for him. Perhaps he does not know how to explain it, but down deep inside he feels, “There must be more to life than this!”

Down inside every man there is a built-in feeling of INCOMPLETENESS. Maybe he cannot identify it but it is there. It bothers him continually and is driven to satisfy the longing. He tries women, money, travel, adventure, all sorts of luxuries and no sooner he have them all, than he wants more. His appetite cannot be satisfied.

And indeed no man can be ever be satisfied because he is created in the image of an INFINITE GOD and at once has an infinite appetite. It follows that a man with an infinite appetite cannot be satisfied with FINITE things. He can only be satisfied by the infinite God for whom he was designed. No one can deny this longing and this is the basis of religion. Go anywhere in the world and you find that people are religious and worshipful. Man is a worshiper by design. Everywhere men bow before gods even if they have to create them, themselves.

The instinct cannot be denied. If men will not worship the true God, they must worship another – but worship they will. They are seeking COMPLETENESS, for they are incomplete without a God. It is the way they are made.

But what a pitiful thing to see men trying to satisfy the “homing instinct” without turning toward HOME. Man with this infinite appetite should instinctively draw close to the infinite one, but if they don’t have him, they look for a substitute on the finite things.

Nothing spiritual can be apprehended by the senses. Nothing infinite can be touched by the hands.

An atheist is merely a man who does not like the built-in ache and seeks to get rid of the God for whom he was designed.

Men are obliged to interpret that call of God in some way and deep within them is the divinely implanted hunger and they must satisfy it somehow. But without the true God, this can reach desperate proportions.

The soul of a man is restless until it rests with God. It is very true that people are restless without God. The silent witness within, the “homing instinct” is constantly drawing him toward God. Of course it does not force him or compel him, but like the needle of a compass it seeks to point him. As a result of this inward press, man constantly goes searching for evidence to mark the road to God. Here is an implanted device which urges men to consider him, still does not interfere with FREE CHOICE.

The Bible sheds much light on this. When God created Adam & Eve and place them in the Garden of  Eden, He gave them the free will to choose to obey Him. But Eve in her quest to satisfy the infinite appetite in her chose to ignore the voice of the spirit of God within her and turned her eyes on the forbidden fruit and paved the way for the fall of the entire humanity.

The majority of humanity around the world ignores this “homing instinct” and lives as though there were no God. What about you? If you have not been responded to the call within you so far, I urge you friend to return home.
