THIS TOO SHALL PASS !!!

There once lived a businessman. He had worked hard all his life and amassed a lot of wealth and he had also learnt the art of living life.

Whenever he found time, he always shared a lot of things with his two sons. Sometimes the sons would listen to him and sometimes not.

One day the businessman called them together and said. “I’m growing old, I don’t know how long will I live. While I’m still alive, I wish to divide my entire wealth and hand it over to both of you.”

He then divided his wealth into two equal portions and gave one portion to each of them and told them that they have to take their share and start living on their own and should not depend on him anymore. Both the sons obeyed him and start working with their portions.

After a few days, the businessman passed away. The sons rushed home on receiving the news. They were very sad. They together arranged for his funeral and last rites. After performing all the rites, both returned home.

They were cleaning the bed on which their father used to sleep. Under the mattress, they found a small wooden box. They opened the box and were surprised to see two rings placed in it. One was of gold and the other was made of silver. The silver ring looked quite ordinary. The golden ring had a valuable diamond ring fixed on it. The elder son said to his younger brother, “This is our father’s last token and that dividing the diamond into two would not be right and suggested each of them keep one ring.” Having said this, the elder son took the diamond ring and gave the silver ring to his brother. The younger thought that this was not the moment to argue, so he accepted his brother’s decision.

The elder son took the golden ring studded with diamond and left. The younger son took the silver. For many days the younger son kept pondering, “My father was such a knowledgeable and intelligent man. He divided all his wealth into two but why did he keep the expensive diamond ring to him? More surprisingly, why did he keep an ordinary silver ring alongside?

The silver ring was lying in front of him. He was intrigued every time he looked at it. Playing with the ring, there were many thoughts running across his mind. He felt that surely there must be some secret hidden in this ring. Suddenly his fingers happened to press on a tiny button on the ring and the ring opened up. He saw inside the ring a tiny piece of paper. He pulled it out, unfolded it and saw four words written on it. When he read the words, he felt that his father had written the essence of his entire life on that small piece of paper.

On that paper his father had written a message. The message was ‘THIS TOO SHALL PASS.’

The younger son contemplated hard over this message and soon he started realizing its meaning – whenever an incident occurs in life, it does not remain the same forever; it soon changes. Situations that have arisen in life are bound to change, ‘this too shall pass.’

On applying this message, the younger son never got entangled in any incident, good or bad. As soon as any negativity arises, he would say to himself, “This too shall pass.” Saying so he would get on with his work at hand. With this, his present state started getting better and likewise his future too brightened up. His wealth started increasing, his business flourished.

But his elder brother did not have his mantra .His wealth was diminishing and deteriorating day by day. One day in despair, he went to meet his younger brother and grumbled, ‘Dad has definitely given you something which you have kept to yourself. You have not shared with me. Your wealth and business are prospering due to it.”

The younger brother said laughingly, “Brother, forgive me” “What you say is true. Dad gave me an invaluable mantra, due to which my business is thriving.”And having said this, the younger brother placed the piece of paper in front of him. The elder son picked it up with his quivering hands and was disappointed to read the words ‘This too shall pass’. He threw the paper and screamed that he is lying to him and insisted that dad must have given him something else.

The younger brother calmly and reverently said that this is the mantra that dad gave to him. But the elder brother was in no mood to listen and with an angry face he left cursing.

Dear friends, this is what happens with us too. We come across so many thoughtful, soul searching, life transforming messages but before we understand, we dismiss them due to our negative attitude.

The one and constant in this universe is that everything changes. Remind yourself of this and you'll suffer less. You'll disheartened less often and less intensly.

Say the phrase, "This too shall pass" to yourself next time you feel upset about something. Use it as a mantra. The circumstances that caused the upset will change — maybe not all of them, but some parts of your circumstances will change all by themselves fairly quickly. And remind yourself that your feelings will change inevitably, even if you do nothing to change them. You won't stay upset forever. I know this is obvious to you now, but when you're upset, you tend to forget this important truth.

It's a simple idea, but it can dramatically ease the strain of the moment, making you better able to deal with it, creating less stress in your body, and making you a calmer person to interact with.

Yes, behind failures lie victory given by God; behind breakages lie God’s creating skills, behind unfulfilled plans, lie God’s glorious and excellent plans. Let us not concentrate on what’s happening today, but rather have the desire to see what God has in store for us tomorrow and move ahead in life.

If you are truly blessed by this message, please feel free to share it with your friends & others. Your comments are most welcome!
