Everyone wants peace of mind. Whether we are a in a businessman facing the pressures of deadline at the office, a homemaker trying to corral the kids or a student just trying to make it through the semester, everyone is tense and striving for peace of mind. But no one can deny the fact that we experience more STRESS than PEACE.
Stress is an unfortunate fact of life in our modern world. Everyone is under stress. We know that stress is unhealthy too. Nearly 3000 years ago King Solomon wrote, “A heart at peace give life to the body, but envy rots the bone” (Proverbs 14:30). Yes, The Bible has a lot to say about stress, and even more about its antidote- peace of mind.
But what is peace and how can one attain that?
You are called here to understand the three kinds of peace.
Firstly, Spiritual peace - peace with God- the only way to obtain it through Jesus Christ.
Secondly, Emotional peace – to have the peace of God – an internal sense of well-being and order even when everything around you seems chaotic.
And Thirdly, Relational peace - peace with other people.
How desperately we need this spiritual, emotional and relational peace, but can we really find it?
In John 14:27, Jesus promised, "I leave behind with you – peace; I give you my own peace and my gift is nothing like the peace of this world…."
It is very well understood from the above promised word that His peace is a gift and we cannot work for it nor can we earn it. We cannot really try hard to get it but it is a gift for us to simply accept.
The peace of this world is fragile and temporary. The peace God gives is different from what the world gives. God’s peace is not related to circumstances. God’s peace allows us to be tranquil in the midst of trouble.
HOW DO WE GET THIS PEACE?
Here are the five keys for you to acquire God’s perfect peace.
1) If you want peace, Obey God’s principles as found in His words – God’s peace comes as you try to live in harmony with Him - when we you do what He tells you to do.
2) If you want peace, Accept God’s pardon, His forgiveness and release from punishment – The only way you can have peace of mind is to have a clear conscience. Guilt is the number one destroyer of peace. So, if you don’t have a clear conscience, confess your sins today to God and avail His forgiveness which is freely available with Him for those who come with an open heart.
3) If you want peace, focus on God’s presence – Be assured that God is always with you and when you realize that you will learn to sense his presence. Do not focus on your problem but focus on God’s presence; He is always with you and He has promised He will never leave you. Remember, it is what you concentrates on that determines your level of personal peace.
4) If you want peace, Trust God’s purpose – Learn to trust God’s purpose even when things do not make sense. Do not depend on your own understanding but acknowledge that God is in control and that He does not mistakes. Everything that happens in your life fits into God’s plan. He uses every situation – even the problems and heartaches and difficulties you bring on yourself to work out His purpose in your life. He fits everything into His plan for you. All God expects from you is that you simply trust Him without trying to figure everything out.
5) Finally, if you want peace, ask for it – No prayer no peace. If you are not praying, you are likely to be worrying. Worry is a useless emotion – the opposite of peace. Both worry and peace can never coexist. When pressure builds up and you feel you are about to explode, don’t panic but turn your cares into prayer. Prayer is a tremendous stress reliever. But only when you allow Jesus to be in charge of your life, you will experience His true and lasting peace.
To sum it all, We can't have peace of God until we first have peace with God.Peace of God flows from the peace with God.The peace with God has more to do with relationship. The peace of God has to do more with trust & obedience.
Remember, peace is not a trouble-free life; it is absence of disturbance a sense of calm in the midst of life’s storms.
